Bostic Hits Game-Winning Home Run




DENTON (4/30/05) - Sophomore Heather Bostic posted the game-winning run with a two-out homer in the sixth inning to give the North Texas softball team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon at Denia Park. The Mean Green lost the first game of the doubleheader, 1-0.

The Mean Green (11-31, 4-10 Sun Belt) snapped a seven-game losing streak with the win, and the Aggies leave their record at 24-26 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

Sophomore Danielle Rupp started the comeback in the second game with a single in the fifth inning after New Mexico State jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Freshman Katya Muller knocked in her from first with a two-out double to put North Texas on the scoreboard, 2-1.

In the sixth inning, senior Stephanie Cranmer hit an in-the-park home run down the right field line to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs, Bostic hit a long ball to left centerfield to put North Texas ahead, 3-2. Bostic was 0-for-19 at the plate before posting her first conference hit of the season.

Sophomore Katy Maxey (3-7) earned her third win of the season on the mound and second conference victory. She pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Only one run was earned. With a runner on third in the seventh inning, Maxey forced a groundout to seal the victory.

Freshman Kristina Fowler took the loss in the first game for the Mean Green. She pitched seven innings, allowed one run on five hits while striking out seven Aggies.

The Aggies scored one run in the third inning on two singles in the first game. The Mean Green left seven runners stranded. Sophomore Monica Garcia went 2-for-3 in the game. Muller and Cranmer posted two hits in the combined two games.

North Texas returns to action on Sunday with a doubleheader against New Mexico State, beginning at noon.
