Muller Hits Two Home Runs In Victory Against Blue Raiders




DENTON (4/5/08) Senior Katya Muller posted two home runs to lead the North Texas softball team to a 13-4 run-rule win against Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green lost the first game, 8-4.

 

The Mean Green extends its record to 20-22 and 8-6 in the Sun Belt, while the Blue Raiders goes to 13-18 and 6-7 in the conference.

 

Muller went 3-for-4 in the 13-4 win with two home runs and three RBI. She also collected her 200th career hit on her RBI single in the third inning. She is the Mean Green’s all-time hit leader with 201 career hits. The shortstop has posted two home runs in a single game three times in her career.

 

North Texas set a team record with 18 hits in the win. The previous record was 17, set last Wednesday in the win against Northwestern State. The Mean Green’s six-run third inning propelled the team to a five-inning run-rule victory. Freshman Courtney Bradshaw posted two hits in the inning, capping the scoring with a two-RBI double.

 

Rebecca Waters posted six hits in the doubleheader, three in each game. She leads the team with a .409 batting average. Freshman Mallory Cantler follows at .403. The first baseman recorded three hits in the doubleheader.

 

Jennifer Smith picked up her seventh win in the circle for the Mean Green. She pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs off five hits.

 

Middle Tennessee jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game after the first two innings. North Texas cut into the lead with two runs in the third inning, using five consecutive singles to bring runners home.

 

Corrie Abel hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to secure the 8-4 victory for the Blue Raiders.

 

North Texas returns to action with a 1 pm game against Middle Tennessee on Sunday, April 6 at Lovelace Stadium.
