Softball Faces Tough Challenge This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (3/11/11) - The North Texas softball team faces a tough challenge this weekend when it opens conference play against No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green plays the Ragin Cajuns in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, March 13 at 11 a.m.

The Mean Green's 18-game homestand continues with three conference games against No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas is currently 9-4 in its last 13 games. Instead of finishing up conference play against ULL, North Texas is opening the Sun Belt season with the defending conference champions. North Texas has lost the last 10 meetings with the Ragin' Cajuns and has won just one game in 26 meetings between the two teams.

Lesley Hirsch is leading the Mean Green with a .383 batting average and 18 hits. Mallory Cantler is the team leader in RBIs with 13 and needs just one double to tie the career record. She currently had 41.

Mariza Martinez and Lesley Hirsch joined Brooke Foster in the triples column this past week. Both posted three-base hits against Missouri State on Wednesday. Hirsch posted her first career triple, while Martinez recorded her fourth. She needs four more to tie the career school record. As a team, North Texas has posted four triples, one shy of the team's total from last year.
