NT Softball Looks To Get On Winning Track

Tulsa, Ok. (3/3/05) - The North Texas softball team looks to get back on the winning track this weekend at the Embassy Suites-Tulsa Invite, the Mean Green’s final regular season tournament. NT plays Wichita State on Friday, March 4 at 11 am.

The Mean Green has lost its last three games after winning its first home game of the season against New Mexico. NT started the week with a 1-0 loss to Western Michigan on Monday afternoon. The Broncos limited the Mean Green to three hits in the game.

Senior Stephanie Cranmer picked up the Mean Green’s first individual honors of the season, receiving all-tournament and conference Player of the Week honors. Cranmer batted .429 in four games last week with six hits, six RBI and an .857 slugging percentage. She posted three extra-base hits, including her first home run at North Texas.

Freshman Kristina Fowler won her first two games on the mound for the Mean Green. She struck out a combined 10 batters in the wins against Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico. She leads the pitching squad with 10 appearances and seven starts this season.

North Texas will play three teams for the first time this weekend: Louisiana-Monroe, Tulsa and Wisconsin. The Mean Green will attempt to play Wichita State again after having their game cancelled because of rain last weekend. NT is 0-4 against Wichita State and 1-1 against Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls are receiving votes in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll.
