Mean Green Softball Faces UTSA Today

DENTON, Texas (2/17/09) - The North Texas softball team ends its road trip with a doubleheader against UTSA on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 1 pm. The Mean Green started the season with a 3-2 record at the Corpus Christi Invitational and then traveled to San Antonio for today's doubleheader.

The Mean Green tied its best start through five games with its 3-2 opening record. NT is 1-1 in the series against the Roadrunners and defeated UTSA last year at home, 9-4. Rebecca Waters hit a grand slam to lead the Mean Green to victory.

Mariza Martinez and Kadie Platt posted home runs for the Mean Green last weekend. Martinez hit a three-run shot in the 6-0 victory against Detroit Mercy, and Platt tied the game against Creighton with a two-run homer. North Texas was also lethal on the bases, stealing 10 bases in 14 attempts. Sophomore Anna Barren and freshman Lyndi Samuelson led the way with three stolen bases each.

All three pitchers picked up wins last weekend. Ashley Lail won her first game in over a year, and Kayla Lawson picked up her first win and her first career save.
