DENTON, Texas - North Texas softball, following a 5-0 performance in the Denton-based Lovelace Invitational, is now 7-3, the program's best start in its 11-year history.

"I think we are beginning to believe what we are made of and how good we can be if we just trust the process and continue to work hard," head coach Tracey Kee said about her team following the Lovelace Invitational.

Behind a deep and resilient rotation of pitchers and some clutch power hitting by senior C-USA Player of the Week Brooke Foster and sophomore Taylor Schoblocher, the Mean Green finished strong in both of its meetings against a tough Northern Iowa squad, which had been receiving top-25 votes prior to the start of the tournament.

Now NT will have the opportunity to face a slew of regional foes beginning with Texas State on Thursday night at 5 p.m. followed by Abilene Christian at 7 p.m.

The tournament will stretch throughout the weekend as North Texas will do battle with Prairie View A&M on Friday night followed by Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night. Both of those contests will be 5 p.m. starts.

The results of the first three days of play will form a seeded bracket for Sunday's championship round, which will feature the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds facing off at 11:30 a.m.

Mean Green Quick Hitters

Six in a Row
With its five-game sweep of the Lovelace Invitational, which included a 2-0 record against (RV) Northern Iowa, NT now sits at six-straight wins heading into the Texas Shootout. The 7-3 record is the best start in NT softball history.

Mean Green Muscle
Sr. Brooke Foster and Jr. Dani Hoff may have the hottest bats on the team right now. Foster is batting .441 (.735 slg%) with 15 hits on the year already and two homers. Hoff has quietly been just as deadly. She's batting .414 with a team-high six doubles, nine RBI and a home run. She's also second on the unit in walks (Wade) with seven.

Schowtime
Sophomore Taylor Schoblocher has never feared the spotlight, and with her team down one run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first meeting with Northern Iowa, she delivered with a three-run shot to right-center field for the walk-off bomb.

Defending Denton
NT is a perfect 5-0 at home, and it looks to remain that way through home tournaments over the next two weekends.

Kee Points
-37 percent of NT's runs have come in the first two innings this season.
-NT has not lost when it has held its opponent to three runs or less.
-Starting catcher Bryana Wade has caught four stealing this season in eight attempts.
-Ace pitcher Ashley Kirk grabbed two wins in the Lovelace Invitational, pushing her record to 4-1.
