Women's Golf Team Signs Two Recruits To National Letters

Denton (11/14/03) -- The North Texas women's golf team signed two players, including Halli Jo Richards of Andrews, Tex., and Lauren Cheves of Bridgeport, Tex., to national letters of intent Friday during the early signing period.

Richards is a three-year letterwinner at Andews High School and has posted a career stroke average of 76.78 through her junior season, which is a school record. Richards has been named to the First Team All-District in Class 4A three consecutive seasons, and she is a two-time first-team all-region selection. As a junior Richards was named First Team All-State and tied for fifth place individually at the Texas State High School 4A Championship.

Cheves was a first-team all-area selection and captured the OIJGA qualifier with a two-under 71. Cheves also won the Trans-American nationals held in Austin, and she was voted the Newcomer of the Year by the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

North Texas opens the spring season of play on Feb. 23 at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson Ariz.
