Long Paces The Mean Green In Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. (9/23/08) It isn’t taking freshman Addison Long very long to figure things out. She led the way for the North Texas women’s golf team as she notched a top 25 finish at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational.

It’s the second straight top 25 finish for Long and the first time since the 2004-05 season that a true freshman playing in their first two collegiate events has notched back-to-back top 25 finishes at North Texas.  She fired a final round of 80 and posted a 237 for the tournament, good for 24th place. Long finished in 6th last week at the NT Fall Classic to start her career.

Junior Janna Golden fell off the pace in the third round with an 85 to place 39th. Junior Jordan Rose shot her best round of the tournament with a third round of 4-over par 76. She vaulted her way up the leaderboard and finished one shot behind Golden with a 243.

Halli Richards and Chandra Alexander had a difficult time in Kansas as Richards shot a three-round score of 255 while Alexander fired a 261.

North Texas as a team shot a final round of 323 and finished tied for 11th place in a field of 16 teams. Oral Roberts captured the team championship by defeating Nebraska in a playoff.

North Texas is back in action on Oct. 6-7 at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational.
