Youth Leads North Texas At Marilynn Smith Invitational




LAWRENCE, Kan. (9/22/08) Junior Janna Golden and freshman Addison Long led the North Texas women’s golf team at the opening day of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. The pair combined to shoot a 157 in the opening two rounds of play and are tied for 15th place heading into the final round.

Golden opened with an 80 in the first round but rebounded to fire a 5-over par 77 in the second round. Long continues to impress as she was steady throughout her 36 holes. 

She posted an opening round of 79 and a second round of 78. Both players are eight shots behind the individual leader Jennifer Clark of Kansas.

North Texas as a team is alone in 12th place in a field of 16 teams. The Mean Green shot an opening round of 322 and a second round of 327.

Junior Jordan Rose had an 82 in the first round and a second round of 85. Senior Halli Richards had a tough time with an 86 and an 87 in the first two rounds. Sophomore Chandra Alexander started strong with an 81 but fell off the pace in the second round with a 93.

The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
