DENTON, Texas (9/21/09) - The North Texas women's golf team is finally back in action beginning today at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate in Denver, Colorado. The three day tournament runs today through Wednesday.
The Mean Green was scheduled to start their fall season last week at the Worldlink North Texas Fall Classic but weather conditions postponed those plans.
North Texas' core is led by Maggie Noel, Janna Golden, and Jordan Rose. Noel had a torrid spring season and led North Texas in stroke average last season. Noel posted four straight top 20 finishes and had two top 10 finishes along the way. Golden was just as good as she posted her best career finish to start the fall season and kept that pace up with the second best stroke average on the team.
Rose battled through injuries and had a top 10 finish to start the spring season off. One of the surprises last season was that of Addison Long. The freshman came in and had three straight top 25 finishes to start her collegiate career off. She didn't let up and closed with her second best tournament of the year at the SBC Championship.
A new addition arrived on the scene in the name of Kelsey Kipp. The Tyler, Tex. Native transferred from UNKC where she had the lowest stroke average on the team and the third-best in the Summit League. She won the UALR Women's Golf Classic with a school record score of 221.
Mitchell also has the addition of Samantha Humphrey who had to sit out last season after transferring from UT-Tyler. Also back from last season is Chandra Alexander and Kelsie Gray. Alexander is looking to regain her form from her freshman season while Gray had one of her best tournaments at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The lone freshman this season is Brooke Bailey. Bailey comes to North Texas after a wildly successful high school career. Bailey has over 44 tournament wins in her career and numerous top finishes in national ranked events. She was also ranked in the top five of the Texas 2009 recruiting class, according to Polo Golf Rankings.
