WACO, Texas - It was a blustery day for golf but the Mean Green didn't let that affect them as they sit in fifth place after the first day of the Baylor Spring Invitational. North Texas shot back-to-back rounds of 310 and is within five strokes of second place and 16 shots behind clubhouse leader Texas Tech after the first 36 holes.
The Mean Green is only two strokes behind No. 28 Oklahoma but leads Baylor, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and SMU after the first day.
The wind really beat us up today," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "It beat us up in scoring and it beat us up physically and mentally. We are still in decent shape in the tournament, but today was a real struggle. The greens are in awful shape and it showed in the scoring for the entire field. But, to win, you have to get past that and get the job done. I hope we can rest well tonight and get out there and play like we have all year. Jacey and Kelsey had some flashes of good golf. Hopefully, the entire team can get it going tomorrow."
Sophomore Jacey Chun is tied for sixth place after two rounds after a first and second round score of 75. Chun managed to post four birdies on the day as she is only three strokes off the lead.
Kelsey Kipp is tied for 12th place after rounds of 75 and 77. Kipp carded four birdies on the day and is at 152 after 36 holes of play.
Chandra Alexander and Addison Long both posted scores of 159 in the first two rounds and the pair is tied for 36th after the first two rounds. Freshman Chaslyn Chrismer had a score of 169 after 36 holes of play.
