North Texas Tied For Eighth After First Day




ST. GEORGE, Utah (3/24/09) Playing against some of the best teams in the country, the North Texas women’s golf squad battled through the first day of play to finish in a tie for eighth place at the BYU Dixie Classic. The Mean Green shot rounds of 315 and 316 to fire a 631 through 36 holes leaving them tied with New Mexico State and less than 12 shots behind Washington, BYU, Wyoming, and San Diego State.

 

The play of Maggie Noel led the Mean Green as she posted an opening round score of 2-over par 74. Noel had four birdies in her first 18 holes of play and ended the day with five birdies through two rounds. She is tied for 14th place with a two-round score of 151.

Janna Golden had three birdies through two rounds and shot an opening round of 80 but lowered that to a 77 in the second round. She is tied for 23rd after 36 holes.


Freshman Addison Long started out strong with a 76 but fell back with a second round of 84. Jordan Rose had a 36-hole mark of 166 after an 85 and 81. Kelsie Gray made quite a second round rally after shooting a first round of 96. Gray cut 17 strokes off her second round to post a 79.

 

Denver leads the overall team competition heading into the final round of play. The final round of play begins tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
