Alexander Fires 71 In Opening Round

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Senior Chandra Alexander shot an 1-under par round of 71 to lead the way for the North Texas women's golf team in the opening round of the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. Alexander had a wild round that featured five birdies, an eagle, and a triple bogey but she is tied for seventh place after 18 holes.

North Texas as a team is in the middle of the pack, tied for seventh after an opening round of 300. Alexander's round began with a triple bogey eight on the first hole. She made the turn at 4-over par but that's when things started to turn. Alexander eagled 13 and then birdies four straight holes to finish the back nine at 5-under par.

"After a really windy and tough start, we managed to put together a respectable round," said head coach Jeff Mitchell. "Chandra's 5 under 31 on the back was amazing. I think the more we get to know this course the better we will play. We still have a long way to go and are not that far back. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

Addison Long and Jacey Chun both shot 2-over par rounds of 74 and they are tied for 27th place. Long and Chun both had three birdies on the day.

Kelsey Kipp and Chaslyn Chrismer both struggled on the day as Kipp was at 9-over par and Chrismer 13-over par for the day.

North Texas is tied with No. 44 Tulsa and one stroke ahead of Baylor and Oregon State. The second round begins tomorrow and live stats can be found at www.golfstat.com.
