Cazaubon Finishes In Eighth Place At NCAA Regional

BREMERTON, Wash. -  North Texas freshman Rodolfo Cazaubon played some of his best golf of the year but came up just short in his bid to advance to the NCAA Championship as he finished in eighth place at the NCAA Men's Golf Regional.

Cazaubon, who entered the final round tied for 11th place, shot a 2-under par 70 in the third round to climb the leaderboard but he was two strokes short of advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Fellow freshman Carlos Ortiz rebounded after a tough second round of play with a 1-under par 71 and finished tied for 54th place with a three-round score of 228.

Cazaubon had a 54-hole score of 1-under par 215 and finished tied for second among individual players in the field. Espen Kofstad of Denver and Lanto Griffin of Virginia Commonwealth are the individual qualifiers to the NCAA Championship. Kofstad was an individual player while Griffin advanced despite his team not finishing in the top five.

Cazaubon had the fourth most birdies in the field of 75 players with 13 in 54 holes of golf.

He ends the season with the best stroke average for a North Texas golfer in seven seasons.
