Mean Green Get Bid To NCAA Tourney

DENTON, Texas - The North Texas men's golf team return to its storied past is complete as the Mean Green received an at large bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament. North Texas is a No. 7 seed and will play in the San Diego Regional at The Farms Golf Club.

It is the first bid to the NCAA Tournament for North Texas since 2003 and the 29th overall appearance for the Mean Green. The at large selection is the first for North Texas in the modern era and only the second in school history.

North Texas enters the regional tournament ranked No. 38 in the nation. The Mean Green has finished in the top-five in nine of their 10 regular season tournaments this year, including a 20-stroke victory at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational.

Carlos Ortiz and Rodolfo Cazaubon were both named all-conference this year and Ortiz won the Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 7-under par score.

The six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 19-21.  Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.  The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 31-June 5, at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.  Oklahoma State is the host institution for this year's championships.

The entire field can be found here.
