Mean Green In Third In Snowy Iowa




IOWA CITY, Iowa- It was a cold and snowy day in Iowa but the No. 38 North Texas men's golf team stayed hot and fired an opening round of 304 to sit in third place at the Hawkeye-TaylorMade Invitational. The tournament was shortened to 36-holes after snow greeted the field of 11 teams in the morning.

North Texas trails the clubhouse leader Missouri by seven strokes and No. 11 Iowa by six heading into the final round tomorrow.

Three players sit in the top-10 for North Texas led by sophomore Carlos Ortiz who is alone in third place after an opening round of 73. Ortiz had five birdies on the day and he enters the final round three strokes off the lead.

Ty Spinella is tied for fifth place, two strokes back from Ortiz after a 75. Spinella had two birdies on the day. Curtis Donahoe is tied for ninth place with an opening round of 76. Donahoe battled through the tough conditions with one birdie on the day and 12 pars.

Josh Jones and Rodolfo Cazaubon had the most trouble on the day as they both shot first round scores of 80.
