Men’s Golf Finishes In Fourth Place At Aggie Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – Competing in a tournament with eight ranked teams, North Texas men’s golf held its own finishing in fourth place with an overall team score of 876 during the two-day tournament at the Aggie Invitational Sunday.

The Mean Green finished 12-over par but finished one stroke behind No. 23 Arkansas and 10 strokes from second place No. 18 LSU. North Texas was ranked No. 68 coming into the tournament and by finishing ahead of five ranked teams (No. 28 Baylor, No. 49 Kent State, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 36 Texas Tech) should continue its pursuit of a top-50 ranking.

Freshman Ian Snyman finished in a tie for eighth place after a tough final round seven-over par 79. His two-day total was 216 (70-67-79), just four strokes off his season best. Sophomore Michael Cotton picked up a top-25 finish in a tie for 12th after a final round two-over par 74. Cotton had a two-day total of 218 (69-75-74).

Junior Cory Churchman finished in a tie for 32nd after a final round 75 and shot a two-day total of 225 (76-74-75). Classmate Alejandro Villasana also finished in a tie for 32nd after a final round one-over par 73 to lead the team. Villasana had a two-day total of 225 (76-76-73), setting a season best total for three rounds.

Freshman Thomas Rosenmueller rounded out the scoring with a final round two-over par 74. Rosenmueller bounced back from that first round 80 to shoot 73-74 in the next two rounds finishing in a tie for 43rd at 227.

The Mean Green will be back in action at the Jim West Intercollegiate April 11-12 in Austin.
