Preparations Continue For Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony And Army Game

DENTON, Texas (11/19/09) - Preparations are continuing for the stadium groundbreaking ceremony at the North Texas athletic center this afternoon. The tables and chairs are getting set up in the tents for the ceremony set to take place at the north end of the athletic center on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The lines for the new football field were put down on Thursday afternoon. Fans will be able to see where the new football stadium will be built. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place outside the south endzone of the future stadium. Mean Green supporters are invited to attend the ceremony. A commemorative souvenir will be given to the first 500 fans in attendance.

The North Texas football game against Army is set for 3 p.m. at Fouts Field. The University of North Texas will honor the United States Military - in particular the Army and Fort Hood - prior to and during this week's football game. On Saturday morning at Fouts Field there will be a flag football game between campus representatives of three branches of the Armed Services with the winners to be acknowledged during the North Texas-Army game.

During pregame on the field, first responders from Fort Hood will be introduced and recognized for their heroism in light of the tragic shooting that left 13 people dead on Nov. 5. There will also be a moment of silence to remember those killed. Fort Hood Commanding General Robert Cone will also participate in the game's ceremonial coin toss.

During the game, the Mean Green will wear special helmet decal stickers provided by Fort Hood to honor those killed and injured in the tragedy. Head coach Todd Dodge and his team will also present General Cone a North Texas flag that has been signed by the entire team.
