DENTON, Texas (9/6/08) -  North Texas (0-1) hosts the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-0) tonight in the 2008 football home opener for the Mean Green. The game will be televised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on TXA 21 and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.

The Mean Green is coming off a 45-6 loss to Kansas State to begin the 2008 season. Tulsa got the season started off with a 45-22 conference win over UAB on the road. North Texas is looking to avoid its second straight 0-2 start to the season while Tulsa is going after back-to-back 2-0 starts to the year.

Tulsa leads the series with North Texas 15-6 and has won the last eight meetings between the two teams. North Texas hasn’t beaten the Golden Hurricane since 1969, a 42-16 win in Denton. The more recent meetings in 2005 and 2006 went the way of Tulsa as well. The Mean Green lost 54-2 in 2005 and 28-3 in 2006.

Four of the six wins for the Mean Green against Tulsa have come at Fouts Field, but the Golden Hurricane holds a slight edge of 5-4 in Denton. In all six of the North Texas wins against Tulsa the Mean Green has held the Golden Hurricane to under 20 points. In 13 of the 15 Tulsa wins the Golden Hurricane has scored 20 points or more.

Two of the most prolific offenses in the NCAA meet up this Saturday. Last season North Texas and Tulsa were one and two in the NCAA FBS for best offensive improvement from 2006 to 2007. The Mean Green offense got off to a slow start to begin the year at Kansas State while Tulsa picked up right where it left off last season at UAB putting up 45 points and racking up 601 yards. Tulsa ranks seventh in the nation in total offense after the first week.
