Leroy Whitaker Wins Regal Eagle Raffle

DENTON (8/18/06) - Leroy Whitaker won the Regal Eagle Raffle and a round-trip bus ride to the North Texas/Texas football game on Sept. 2 after having his name drawn by the Vice Chairman of the UNT Foundation Board of Directors. The Regal Eagle Raffle raised $12,500 for the Mean Green Club Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund.

Alongside North Texas Athletic Director Rick Villarreal, football head coach Darrell Dickey and UNT Foundation Executive Director Douglas J. Chadwick, Jack Wall picked winner Leroy Whitaker, a North Texas alum, from a box containing 250 tickets at the new athletic center.

Whitaker is a long-time supporter of the University of North Texas and the athletic department. He is a Capital Campaign Donor, a Mean Green Club member and a season ticket holder. He graduated from North Texas in 1950 and received the Outstanding Alumni Service Award in 2001.

The lucky winner and nine guests receive round-trip travel on the Regal Eagle to Austin, Texas for the Sept. 2 North Texas/Texas game. The trip also includes game and tailgating tickets and hotel accommodations.

The North Texas football team opens its 2006 schedule with a matchup against defending national champion Texas on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 11 am in Austin, Texas.
