The Unveiling of the New Uniform

DENTON (7/23/07) The North Texas athletic department will unveil the new football uniform on Saturday, August 4 at the Mean Green Kickoff Cookout. Mean Green fans can get a sneak peek of the uniform over the next two weeks on MeanGreenSports.com

Starting on Monday, July 23, MeanGreenSports.com will begin to unveil the new look, one piece at a time. On, Monday, the helmet on our North Texas player was revealed.  It has been 40 years since North Texas wore a white helmet. The 1967 team, which included Joe Greene, was the last North Texas to wear a white helmet.

On Wednesday, the new shoes were made visible. The Under Armour shoes that Mean Green players will wear come in five different models.  Players will have the option of wearing molded-bottom cleats, or screw-in cleats depending on personal preference and the playing surface.  There are also different shoes for the different positions that the players play.  The speed shoes, that our player is wearing, are low-cut and lightweight, which is preferred by skill position players like wide receivers and defensive backs. There are also versatile mid-level cleats and the most-supportive high-top cleats that are designed for interior offensive and defensive linemen.

Accessories were revealed next. All Under Armour, this included gloves, socks and wristbands. The new Under Armour pants were shown for the first time on Monday, July 30. The Mean Green will wear game-day white pants at home and away games. The white pants feature green and black streaks down the side and a small Eagle on the front. Plan to attend the Mean Green Kickoff  Cookout to see the unveiling of the Mean Green jersey.

Wrapping up the unveiling of the uniform is the coaches attire. Former North Texas letterman and current wide receivers coach Clayton George modeled the coaches cold weather gear which is provided by Under Armour.  The coaches wear contrasting colors from the players uniforms for both home and away games, helping the players on the field quickly and easily identify the coaches sending in the signals.

The Mean Green Kickoff Cookout is one of two annual events that the athletic department is hosting in August. The third annual North Texas Women’s Football Clinic will be held on Thursday, August 2 at 6 pm. Fans can register for both events on-line.
