2013 Hall of Fame Weekend April 12-14

North Texas is combining the Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon and the Green-White Football Game to form one of the biggest weekends of the spring, April 12-14 in and around Apogee Stadium and the Mean Green Village.

This year's Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will honor Ron Linscomb (track and field), C. Dan Smith (football), Walter Chapman (football), Brandon Kennedy (football) and Jamario Thomas (football).

Renew Football Season Tickets

The period for renewal of North Texas football season tickets has begun, and fans can renew their tickets for the 2013 season by mail, online or by phone.

This season marks the Mean Green's entry into Conference USA. The Mean Green has six home games this year, including three home games against schools from Texas - the first time that has happened since 1994.

North Texas will also open the season with a home game for the first time since 2001, on Aug. 31 at Apogee Stadium against Idaho, the first meeting with the Vandals since the two teams met as Sun Belt Conference opponents in 2004.

The home schedule also features dates with Ball State (Sept. 14), Middle Tennessee (Oct. 12), Rice (Oct. 31), UTEP (Nov. 9) and UTSA (Nov. 23).

The weekend's events include the Green and White Spring Football Game, the athletic-surplus equipment garage sale, recruitment programs for admitted and prospective Greek students, ribbon cutting of the new basketball practice facility, Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, North Texas Touchdown 5k and the GoMeanGreen.com Flag Football game, and two North Texas tennis matches at Waranch Tennis Complex. The North Texas All-Century Football Team will also be revealed during the Green-White game.

APRIL 12-13: Premiere Weekend for Admitted Students

The Premiere Weekend is your chance to get an insider's view of college life in Denton. Attend a mock class, tour the campus, visit residence halls, meet other freshmen, enjoy a tailgate lunch on The Hill, visit Apogee Stadium and cheer on the Green and White at the annual spring football game. Come spend the weekend here to experience UNT and Denton. This is an exclusive event just for members of the UNT Class of 2017. Register early to reserve your spot on the green carpet.

APRIL 12: North Texas Tennis Team vs. Middle Tennessee, 3 p.m.

Join head coach Sujay Lama and the North Texas tennis team at Waranch Tennis Complex as they take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

APRIL 13: North Texas Touchdown 5K, 8 a.m.

The North Texas Touchdown 5K and 1-mile fun run will take place on April 13 at 8 a.m. Register online at www.northtexastouchdown5k.com. Early registration is $20 for the 5k and $10 for the 1 mile fun run. Runners will receive a t-shirt, race number, food sampling and a stadium tour.

The fourth annual North Texas Touchdown Run 5K has moved to April 13th at Apogee Stadium in conjunction with the Mean Green spring football game and registration is now open.

The 5K Touchdown Run has been held in August the last three years, but the April date will allow for cooler race weather, as well as a full day of Mean Green activities, including tailgating events and the Spring Game.

Runners will still be able to start and finish at the 50-yard line, and touch Spiriki while seeing their face on the Apogee Stadium video board.

APRIL 13: Greek Preview

The Office of Greek Life will host Greek Preview Day, a day-long orientation program which provides an opportunity for incoming freshmen and transfer students to create a connection with the university Greek community. Prospective students will explore an organization fair, a welcome session, short panel discussion, and specialized break-out sessions covering Greek recruitment, traditions and the value of membership in a fraternal organization. After a tour of on-campus Greek housing, students and parents are invited to attend a tailgate lunch on The Hill prior to the Green-White Spring Football Game at Apogee Stadium.

APRIL 13: Basketball Practice Facility Grand Opening, 9 a.m.

The new basketball practice facility will officialy open its doors with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. This newly-renovated space will be available for the North Texas men’s and women’s basketball teams. The ceremony will take place in the Mean Green Village across form the Volleyball Center.

APRIL 13: GoMeanGreen.com Flag Football Game, 10 a.m.

The annual GoMeanGreen.com flag football game will take place at Apogee Stadium. All proceeds from the event, organized by GoMeanGreen.com, will benefit the Andrew Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund. The game kicks off at 10 a.m. and will include former Mean Green student athletes in action, along with a silent auction.

APRIL 13: Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon and Ceremony, 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon and awards ceremony for the 2012 Hall of Fame class for North Texas Athletics will be held on the Club Level of Apogee Stadium at 11:30 a.m., prior to the annual Green-White game. Doors will open at 11:00 a.m. The Hall of Fame class to be recognized at this year’s luncheon are Walter Chapman (football), Brandon Kennedy (football), Ron Linscomb (track and field), C. Dan Smith (football) and Jamario Thomas (football). This is the 30th North Texas Hall of Fame class, and brings the Hall’s membership to 171.

APRIL 13: Athletic Surplus Garage Sale, 12:30 p.m.

North Texas Athletics is cleaning out its closets and will host a surplus equipment and apparel garage sale at Apogee stadium prior to and during the Green-White game. The Mean Green Nation can look forward to an opportunity to secure brand-new to slightly-used apparel and equipment for pennies on the retail-market dollar. At 12:30 p.m., when the gates of Apogee stadium open for the annual Green-White Spring game, a plethora of items will be available for purchase by the general public. All items will be set up just inside of Gate 2 adjacent to the Athletic Ticket Office and Mean Green Gear Stadium Store. Sales will start at 12:30 and run at least through halftime of the spring game.

APRIL 13: North Texas All-Century Football Team Announcement

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the North Texas football program, and, as part of the celebration, the Athletic Department is naming the North Texas All-Century Football Team. The team was chosen by Mean Green fans, who registered over 11,000 votes for the team members, and by a final selection committee which included long-time North Texas observers such as George Dunham, Dave Barnett, Randy Cummings and Bill Mercer and members of the Athletic Department. The final All-Century roster will be announced during the April 13 Green-White Game, and several finalists and All-Century players are expected to attend Saturday's events.

The formal celebration of the All-Century Team, with presentations to the team members, will take place prior to the Mean Green's Aug. 31 season-opening game against Idaho.

APRIL 13: Green-White Spring Football Game, 2 p.m.

The North Texas football team wraps up its spring practices with the annual Green-White game. This year's game will kickoff at 2 p.m. at Apogee Stadium. Admission is free.

APRIL 14: North Texas Tennis Team vs. Troy, 11 a.m.

The North Texas tennis team plays the Troy Trojans Sunday at 11 a.m. at Waranch Tennis Complex. This is the final dual match of the season for the Mean Green before they defend their Sun Belt Conference championship at the league tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana. Admission is free.
