DENTON, Texas - Friday night's banquet honoring the North Texas All-Century Football Team has sold out, but fans can still see the greatest players in Mean Green history when the team is honored at the season-opening football game at Apogee Stadium.
North Texas is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the start of its football program this weekend. The All-Century Football Team, selected by Mean Green fans, will be honored on Friday with a banquet at Apogee Stadium's club level, and on Saturday at the North Texas season-opening game against Idaho, which kicks off at 6 p.m.
Friday's All-Century Team banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. The banquet is sold out.
The All-Century Team is also memorialized in The North Texas All-Century Team Commemorative Book, a 50-page full-color edition that covers not only the All-Century Team but also the entire history of Mean Green football.
The North Texas All-Century Football Team Commemorative Book includes:
more than 170 photographs, some not seen for decades;
a full page for each member of the All-Century Team, with bio and photographs;
a spectacular aerial shot of Apogee Stadium during its opening night in 2011;
a brief history of the program from 1913 to joining Conference USA in 2013;
a complete list of the finalists for the All-Century Team;
pages for autographs;
and the story of a former North Texas player, serving in Vietnam, writing to Coach Odus Mitchell on the occasion of his retirement - a letter that was interrupted by a hand grenade.
