Comeback Falls Short as NT Falls 59-54

DENTON, Texas - Mean Green women's basketball's furious comeback fell just short Thursday night at the Super Pit as it fell 59-54 to UALR.

Trailing by as many as 22, North Texas (3-11, 0-1) mounted a run of 25-8 over the last nine minutes to get within four points of the Trojans (7-5, 1-0).

Senior Denetra Kellum paced the North Texas offensive attack as the one of two in double digits with 15 points while UALR's Chastity Reed led all scorers with 18.

Going with a new starting line-up that did not include sophomore sensation Jasmine Godbolt, the Mean Green struggled to score early and found itself in an eight point hole at halftime, trailing 27-19.

The Trojans came out in the second half firing, putting up a 22-8 run early in the half against the Mean Green.

North Texas battled back in the remainder of the frame, but simply ran out of clock in which to fight falling five points short of completing the massive comeback.

The loss marks only the second time Mean Green women's basketball has started 0-1 in conference play since joining the Sun Belt in 2000.

The Mean Green will be back in action Saturday, January 1 at 2 p.m. from the Super Pit in Denton.
