WACO (12/30/02) The North Texas women’s basketball team (4-5) couldn’t overcome a sluggish shooting performance in an 83-49 setback against Baylor (11-1) Monday at the Ferrell Center.
The Lady Eagles hit just 16 of its 61 attempts from the floor for a .262 shooting percentage, while Baylor connected on 42 percent of its field goal attempts and converted 26 of 29 free throws.
North Texas led for the larger portion of the game’s first 10 minutes, but Baylor took control over the next 10 to open up a 14-point halftime lead. The Lady Eagles led 15-12 almost midway through the first half, but were outscored 25-8 over the final 11:43 to go into the locker room trailing 23-37 at the intermission period. The Lady Bears went on a 15-6 run the first eight minutes of the second half and didn’t look back, outscoring the Lady Eagles 31-20 the rest of the way.
Led by Angel Lewis’ team-high 16 points, three North Texas players scored in double figures. Lewis was followed by Erica Bobo with 12 and Vilma Grismanauskaite chipped in 10.
The Lady Eagles completed a two-game road swing and now return home for a four-game home stand that includes dates against LSU, Florida International, Weber State and Denver. North Texas will host LSU in its next game, scheduled for Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
