North Texas On The Road Facing No. 21 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (12/27/08) Fresh off the Christmas break the North Texas women’s basketball team gets its toughest test of the season as they travel to Stillwater to take on No. 21 Oklahoma State.  The Mean Green is looking to rebound after a loss to New Orleans before the break. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.

It’s a homecoming for North Texas head coach Shanice Stephens as she returns to her alma mater as a head coach for the first time. Stephens during her time at Oklahoma State led the Cowgirls to the Sweet 16 in 1993.

North Texas and Oklahoma State face off for the second straight year in a rivalry that dates back to 1979. Oklahoma State leads the series with North Texas 10-1. The Cowgirls knocked off the Mean Green last season in 77-55 in Denton. North Texas and Oklahoma State have met once before in the post-season in 2001 when the two teams faced off in the WNIT, a 12-point Cowgirl win.

The only North Texas win in the series came in 1989 when the Mean Green knocked off the Cowgirls 75-65 in Denton. North Texas is winless in Stillwater with a mark of 0-7.

Of all of the career records that Amber Jackson has eclipsed through 11 games this season, the last one standing was points in a game. Jackson though made short work of that in the New Orleans game, scoring a career-best 28 points.

Jackson also played all 40 minutes of the game, marking the second time in her career she has gone the entire way without a breather. Ironically the only other game she played all 40 minutes was against New Orleans at home last season.
