Mean Green Begin SBC Play Against The Cajuns




LAFAYETTE, La. (12/17/08) The chase for a conference title begins for the North Texas women’s basketball team as they open up Sun Belt Conference play Thursday night against Louisiana-Lafayette. The Mean Green has dropped two straight on the road and is looking to even their record on the year at 5-5.

Tip-off is at 5 p.m. and the game can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.

North Texas senior forward Amber Jackson was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week as she continues to etch her name into the Mean Green’s record books.

Jackson recorded her fifth and sixth straight double-double on the season as she averaged 18 points and grabbed 13.5 rebounds in games at New Mexico and SMU.

It’s the 25th meeting between the two teams and Louisiana-Lafayette holds a 13-11 edge over North Texas in the series. The two teams split their two games last season. The last North Texas win in Lafayette came on January 7, 2006 in a 70-47 thrashing of the Cajuns on the road.

The Mean Green owns a record of 3-9 on the road at Louisiana-Lafayette.

North Texas begins Sun Belt Conference play when they face off with Louisiana-Lafayette. Its the ninth season in the Sun Belt Conference for the Mean Green.

North Texas has had a near flawless record in league opening games since joining the SBC in 2000. North Texas has started league play with a 1-0 record seven times.

Only one time, the 2002-03 season, has North Texas been 0-1 after its first league game in the Sun Belt. Once in conference play, North Texas has an overall record of 67-60 in eight years of competition.
