Aggies Pressure Defense Overwhelms The Mean Green




COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 5 Texas A&M flexed their muscle early and pulled away from the North Texas women's basketball team for a 108-49 win at Reed Arena. The Aggies (7-0) used a 34-6 run midway through the first half and never looked back as they remained perfect on the year at 7-0.

The 59-point loss is the second worst loss in Mean Green history.

After the two teams traded baskets in the early going, Texas A&M led 22-16 midway through the first half.  The Aggies then exploded the rest of the first half and outscored North Texas 34-6 to take a 56-22 lead at the half.

Texas A&M didn't let up in the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 64 points. The pressure defense applied by Texas A&M resulted 36 turnovers by North Texas and 54 points for the Aggies. 

The Mean Green (3-7) got a career-high 10 points from Chynna Burwell who came off the bench to score in double figures for the first time of her career.

The Aggies had four players in double figures led by senior Tanisha Smith who scored 16 points in 19 minutes.  Texas A&M shot 57 percent from the floor while North Texas was at 25 percent for the game.

North Texas returns to action against ULM in the Sun Belt Conference opener next Tuesday at the Super Pit.
