Mustangs Knock Off Mean Green 70-53

DALLAS, Tex. (12/9/06) Four players scored in double figures as SMU powered its way past the North Texas women’s basketball team 70-53 at Moody Coliseum. The Mean Green was hampered by 30 percent shooting and 24 turnovers in the game.

“It was a tough one because they are a big rival, but we just didn’t take care of the ball,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “We got behind early and tried to come back but give them credit because they had an answer for us each time”.

North Texas (2-6) led briefly at 2-0 to start the game, but SMU (6-2) took the lead at 4-2 four minutes into the game and never trailed again.

The Mustangs methodically built a 10-point halftime lead at 31-21 and held the Mean Green to 22 percent shooting in the first half.

SMU continued to add to its lead in the second half as Janielle Dodds scored six straight points to open the second half and make it 37-25 Mustangs.

North Texas could not get any closer than eight points in the second half as SMU built as much as an 18-point second half lead.

Sanetra Jackson led the way for North Texas with 12 points.

North Texas is back in action on Saturday, December 16 when it begins Sun Belt Conference play at New Orleans.
