Flyers Post A Comeback Victory, 79-73




DENTON (11/11/05) The Oklahoma Flyers orchestrated a 28-9 run against North Texas during the last 12 minutes of the game to steal a 79-73 victory in a women’s basketball exhibition game on Friday night at the Super Pit.

 

The Mean Green finished preseason play with a 1-1 record and will open its season on Friday, Nov. 18 against Stephen F. Austin at home. North Texas defeated the Flyers last year in exhibition action, 95-79.

 

North Texas led the game for the first part of the second half, culminating with its largest lead of the game, 64-51, at 12:02. The Mean Green would manage only three field goals and nine points for the remainder of the game. Senior Erika Bobo, who led the team with 14 points, scored the team’s final five points.

 

The Mean Green took control of the game in the waning minutes of the first half when senior Natalie Mireles hit back-to-back three-pointers to put North Texas ahead, 45-43. The North Texas lead grew in the second half with a 19-8 run that put the Mean Green ahead by 13. Six different players contributed to the scoring.

 

NT shot 51 percent from the field in the first period, compared to 11-of-32 shooting (34.4) in the second half. The Flyers were 11-for-27 from the field and 11-for-15 from the free throw line in the second half. The Mean Green held the edge in rebounds in the game, 43-32.

 

Twelve North Texas players saw action in the game, including Sanetra Jackson who followed Bobo with 12 points. Redshirt freshman Amber Jackson contributed nine points and two blocks.

 

The Oklahoma Flyers forced 27 NT turnovers and scored 23 points off them. Lauren Schoush was the game’s high scorer with 20 points.
