Women's Basketball Opens Practice




DENTON, Texas - North Texas women's basketball held its first practice of the 2012-13 season today, its first full practice under new head coach Mike Petersen. The Mean Green begins preparations for the season which begins on November 12 at home against Texas State.

Petersen, who has 313 career coaching wins, starts his first season with the Mean Green with three starters returning from last season and had one of the nation's best turnarounds last year.

Petersen takes over a team that will also feature an infusion of new talent with eight newcomers on the team this year.

North Texas returns leading scorer and all-conference player Jasmine Godbolt, along with Laura McCoy and Sara Stanley. Godbolt lead North Texas in scoring with 12.3 points a game, and notched seven double-doubles.  

McCoy knocked down 46 3-pointers last season, the seventh most in school history. She begins the 2012-13 season with 72 career 3-pointers, which is 10th all-time.

Sophomore guard BreAnna Dawkins, who sat out last season after transferring from Wichita State, is one of the newcomers this season along with junior college transfer Hannah Christian to help bolster the depth at the point guard spot.

The Mean Green has five incoming freshman this season and the roster is one of the youngest in school history with only two seniors.

North Texas opens the 2012-13 season at home against Texas State on November the 12.
