DENTON, Tex.- Former North Texas basketball player Rosalyn Reades was named by the NCAA the 2002 Woman of the Year for the State of Texas.
Reades, a four-year standout player for the Lady Eagles, was chosen from more than 340 student athletes that were nominated for the award. This prestigious award honors outstanding female student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics and community leadership, and have completed their collegiate athletics eligibility.
On the court Reades helped lead the Lady Eagles to two consecutive post-season appearances, 77 wins in her four-year stint at North Texas, three conference division championships, and a school record 21 wins in the 2001-02 season. Reades was named the 2002 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was an honorable mention all-Sun Belt Conference Player her senior season. She holds the all-time record for career assists and steals in North Texas history. Reades is the only player in North Texas history to record 500 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists, and 200 steals in a career.
Off the court Reades was a standout in the classroom. She was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist and Marshall Scholarship nominee in 2002. Reades was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI Women's Basketball Team. Reades was also named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List in 2001. In 2000 Reades was a first team selection to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Awards for Women's Basketball. She was also named to the Big West All-Academic team for the 1999-2000 season
