DENTON, Tex. (2/28/06) Junior forward Mia Ajekwu was named the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her performance in leading the North Texas women’s basketball team to the Sun Belt Conference West Division Title.
Ajekwu posted back-to-back games of 24 and 23 points against South Alabama and Troy. She notched a career-high 24 points in the division clinching win over South Alabama and grabbed nine rebounds while shooting it 62 percent from the floor (10-16).
In the win over Troy, Ajekwu poured in 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. For the week she averaged 23.5 points and eight rebounds a game. The 24 points scored by Ajekwu were the most by a North Texas player since January 29, 2004.
Ajekwu is the first North Texas basketball player to earn SBC Player of the Week honors this season.
