Late Rally Falls Short For Mean Green Women's Basketball




DENTON (2/17/07) Anshel Cooper scored 32 points to lead the Arkansas-Little Rock women’s basketball team to a 69-63 victory against North Texas on Saturday night at the Super Pit.

 

The Mean Green (7-18, 4-11) has lost four of its last five games. The Trojans (19-9, 11-6) swept the series this season against North Texas but trails 9-3 overall.

 

North Texas cut a 16-point deficit to four points in the last minute of the game, but the Trojans hit free throws to hold onto the win.

 

Brittney James and Tricia Lee led four players in double figures. James and Lee scored 13 points each, while Didi Wali and Sanetra Jackson added 11 points apiece. James has scored in double figures in the last four games, while Wali scored a season high and was two points shy of her career high. Sanetra Jackson came off the bench to score 11 points in 22 minutes of action.

 

James, Wali and Lee all hit three-pointers in the opening minutes of the game to lead North Texas to a 15-6 advantage. Sanetra Jackson sank two free throws to give the Mean Green a 10-point lead with 12:20 left in the first half.

 

UALR used a 16-6 run to go into halftime ahead, 39-29. The Trojans scored three quick baskets at the start of the second period to take its largest lead, 45-29. UALR took its second 16-point lead, 54-38, with 12:31 on the clock.

 

North Texas responded with a 23-11 run, including three three-pointers, to come within single digits, 65-61, with 52 seconds left in the game. The Mean Green was forced to foul and UALR went 4-for-4.

 

North Texas returns to action on Monday, Feb. 19 when it faces Western Kentucky at 7 pm in the Super Pit.
