North Texas Heads To The Gulf Coast To Battle Jaguars

MOBILE, Ala. (2/4/09) The North Texas women’s basketball team continues it’s road swing with a visit to South Alabama tonight. The Mean Green has owned the Jaguars with a 12-4 series lead, including a 5-3 mark at the Mitchell Center. Game time tonight is at 7 p.m. and the action can be heard on 88.1 FM KNTU.

Tonight could also be a record setting night for North Texas senior forward Amber Jackson. She needs only 13 more rebounds to pass Empress Drane to become the all-time leading rebounder in school history. She enters the game with 704 rebounds.

Last season the Mean Green blew away South Alabama at home 87-53 in a game that saw Brittney James pour in a then career-high 33 points. North Texas will have to defend the 3-pointer tonight as the Jaguars are one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the nation, averaging almost eight 3-pointers a game.

Jackson is also on pace to enter the top 10 for most points in a single season in school history. The record is 611 set by Clara Campbell in the 1985-86 season. She is on pace for 524 points, which would be the fifth most in school history and the most since Johnson and the 2001-02 season.

A win tonight by North Texas puts them one win away from tying the school record for most road wins in a single season. The Mean Green has five road wins on the season and the school record is seven, set during the 2005-06 season.
