Mean Green Falls At Arkansas State, 75-47

JONESBORO, Ark. (1/21/06) The North Texas women’s basketball team (13-5, 3-3) couldn’t overcome a solid Arkansas State (9-9, 3-2) offensive attack in a 75-47 setback Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

North Texas fell for the first time this season when playing a SBC opponent on the road, now standing 3-1 in those games.  Arkansas State won its third consecutive games and improved to 7-2 in home games.

North Texas trailed just 36-30 at the break, but playing without second leading scorer Erica Bobo for the entire second half quickly gave up a 15-5 run over the first six minutes of the second half.  Bobo suffered an injury at the close of the first half and was unable to return. North Texas couldn’t get any closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

The Mean Green grabbed eight more rebounds than Arkansas State and recorded 10 steals, but made just 29 percent of its shots and hit only one three-point field goal.  Arkansas State, on the other hand, hit 52 percent of their shots and scored 26 points off 22 NT turnovers.

Adrianne Davie did the most damage for ASU, picking up a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs.  Mian Williams was the only North Texas player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.  Talicia Sanders led the Mean Green on the boards with seven rebounds and also posted five points and four blocks.

North Texas led 21-14 with 10:02 to play in the first half, but Arkansas State went on a 22-3 run over the next eight minutes to take its largest lead of the first half at 36-24.  However, the Mean Green scored the final six points of the first half to cut the Lady Indians lead to just six at the break.

North Texas returns home to the Super Pit for its next two games, starting with Sun Belt Conference West Division newcomer Troy on Thursday (Jan. 26) at 5 p.m.  The Mean Green will host South Alabama on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 5 p.m. as well.
