#First44 Day 9: Hall of Famers Unite

April 18, 2015

Mitchell was named head coach of the North Texas women's basketball team on April 9, 2015. Between moving back to Denton, getting to know the team and beginning to operate the Mean Green program, Mitchell will be very busy early on in her tenure. We want to give fans an in-depth look at her #First44 days on the job in the form of a 44-part series that will run from April 10-May 23.

Eight years after Jalie Mitchell was inducted into the North Texas Hall of Fame, she attended the 2015 version of the event to welcome five more to the exclusive club. George Dunham, Leonard Dunlap, Walter Johnson, Judy Nelson and Willie Parker made up this year's class and the new women's basketball coach could not help but recall her special moment in 2007.

"I was overcome with emotion and felt grateful that the committee thought enough of me to honor me," she said. "I was able to be inducted with my friend, Rosalyn Reades. We dreamed of making history at North Texas and that day was proof that dreams do come true."

There was a lot of Mean Green women's basketball history represented at the event today. Nelson led the 1985-86 team to the school's only NCAA Tournament berth and first-ever 20-win season. Mitchell also met up with former assistant coaches Janice Dziuk and Angela Ortega, as well as former head coach Tina Slinker.
