DENTON, Texas - The North Texas women's hoops team received a mid-season gift when junior transfer Janis Peterson erupted seemingly out of nowhere, scoring a season-high 27 points at Northern Colorado, 21 of which came in the second half alone.

Her quick-release deep shot has been a weapon for the Mean Green in the half court ever since, and she can use her length to create around the rim.

"She has given us a floor stretcher," head coach Mike Petersen said. "She makes perimeter shots and puts it on the floor to attack the basket. She has proven multidimensional for us offensively."

Hidden beneath the gaudy scoring numbers, Peterson has made an impact on defense for North Texas as well.

"What people don't realize is that she is an underrated defender, who has gotten her hand on the ball quite a bit for us defensively," coach Petersen concluded.

In the last seven games since Peterson broke into the starting rotation for the Mean Green, she has notched 15 steals and a team-high seven blocks.

You can see Peterson and the rest of the NT women's hoops squad in their Conference USA home opener on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Super Pit when it hosts Marshall.
