DENTON, TX - The North Texas women finished off a two-game sweep of the weekend Hospitality Hill Challenge with a 82-49 massacre of Bethune-Cookman Sunday evening at the Super Pit.

The win gives North Texas (3-2) its first win streak of the young campaign. In the most lopsided victory of the season for the Mean Green, North Texas scored its most points of the year while surrendering its fewest.

"That was better," North Texas coach Mike Petersen said. "We played really hard, and we took the fight out of them early."

North Texas led wire to wire, building a double-digit lead in the first five minutes and then ascending to 20- and 30-point leads before halftime. Eight Mean Green players scored in the opening half, when North Texas shot 50 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range. Senior guard Desiree Nelson led the early assault with 12 first half points, while forward Acheil Tac continued her strong play with eight points and nine boards in the half, on her way to her second double-double of the season.

The North Texas defense, meanwhile, throttled the Wildcats. BCU hit 5-of-31 field goals and one of nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes, when the Mean Green rolled to a 44-15 halftime lead. For the game, North Texas allowed BCU to shoot just 23 percent from the floor.

Eleven players scored for North Texas in the game, led by BreAnna Dawkins with had 14 points and a second-high six assists.

"Everyone played really well," Petersen said. "It didn't matter who we rolled out there."

Quick Hits

Acheil Tac continued her the strong start to her sophomore season with her second double-double of the season Sunday. Her 12 points and 11 rebounds against BCU maintained her season averages near a double-double at 9.6 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.

Desiree Nelson had a season high with 12 points, all in the first half, bettering her season best of 11 points against Houston.

BreAnna Dawkins recorded season bests for points (14) and assists (six). Her six assists equalled her output for the first four games of the season.

• The Mean Green's true-freshman duo had their biggest night of the season. Candice Adams had four points and three assists, and Terra Ellison had nine points and three rebounds in just eight minutes of play.

North Texas plays Tuesday at the Super Pit against Grand Canyon, which like the Mean Green went 2-0 this weekend in the Holiday Hill Challenge. Game time is 5 p.m.
