DENTON, Texas – The Tony Mitchell era has begun at North Texas, and you’ve got one more chance this week to watch the USA Basketball and Mean Green star in action at the Super Pit. North Texaswill battle LSU on Thursday in a rematch of last year's 75-55 Mean Green win in Baton Rouge, La.

Mitchell’s highly anticipated debut on Sunday lived up to the hype, as the Rivals.com No. 2 ranked forward of 2010 poured in the first debut double-double of the Johnny Jones era. Mitchell, who led the U19 USA Basketball team in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocked shots (1.8  bpg) at the FIBA World Championships in July, poured in 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in 20 minutes of action. Four of his six field goals came on dunks.

The Mean Green has now won five of its last six games, and improves to 58-7 in home non-conference games in the Jones era. In fact, North Texas has won 17 straight non-con home games, and 33-of-34.

North Texas rolled the LSU Tigers, 75-55, last year in Baton Rouge, La., with a veteran lineup that included native Josh White, who poured in a game-high 19 points for the Mean Green.

With higher than normal crowds anticipated for the LSU tilt, fans are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance online or by calling 1-800-UNT-2366.  Tickets start at $15 and UNT students receive free admission with their student ID.
