DENTON (12/20/05) - North Texas student-athletes found time this holiday season to volunteer with the Salvation Army and collect canned goods for the athletic department's annual food drive.
Student-athletes from five teams took an active role this year in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive. For two weekends in December, the Mean Green worked in shifts at the Golden Triangle Mall and nearby stores to help raise money.
Student-athletes were also busy collecting food for the department's annual canned food drive. They collected 1,445 items,including canned goods, baby needs and personal hygiene items. The student-athletes took a special interest in donating personal hygiene items and baby needs during this years drive.
The softball team ended up with the best overall team performance, followed by women's volleyball and women's soccer.
