Mean Green And Aggies Poised For Lone Star Showdown On FSN Southwest

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (12/07/09) - North Texas and Rice played another thriller on Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse, as the Mean Green improved to 5-2 with a 64-62 win over the Owls. Now North Texas and Texas A&M settle in for a Lone Star showdown in College Station on Fox Sports Net on Monday at 7 p.m.

Josh White notched his fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season, and is averaging 20.0 points per game against Big XII opponents in his career. NT is 2-0 against teams from the Lone Star State, and battled to a two-point game the last time it hooked up with the Aggies.Quick Hitters

  • Getting to the free throw line is a big part of the Mean Green's game. NT ranks sixth in the nation with 20.7 free throws made per game, and got back on track with a 21-of-26 performance at RiceJosh White ranked second in the NCAA last year with a 90.6 free throw percentage, and has now netted his last 19 free throw attempts dating back to the UT Arlington game on Nov. 19.
    Johnny Jones became very familiar with the Aggies as a player at LSU. In fact, Jones played against Texas A&M all four years at LSU (1980-81 thru 1983-84). The No. 4 Tigers defeated the Aggies his freshman year 67-57 in Baton Rouge and also his junior year (88-70 on a neutral court) and senior year (75-65 on a neutral court when LSU was ranked No. 12 in the nation). Texas A&M was able to knock off LSU during Jones' sophomore year, 68-63 in College Station.
    Oklahoma State double-teams back on Nov. 21 forced Josh White into distribution mode. Still, the junior is averaging is averaging 20.0 points per game against Big XII opponents in his career. The Baton Rouge native is shooting 45.5 percent from 3-point (10-of-22) and 96.0 percent (24-of-25) from the free throw line in those games.
