GAME NOTES

DENTON, Texas – Alzee Williams has been called many things in his time at North Texas. Last year, “workhorse” would have fit him pretty well, but this year the best word to describe the junior is “efficient”.

Williams leads the Mean Green with 32.1 minutes a game, but has just five total turnovers on the year - an average of one every 57.8 minutes. No other player in the Sun Belt that averages at least 30 minutes per game can boast five or fewer turnovers.

It was his efficiency that helped the North Texas offense get back on track over the last two outings. The NT offense shot 44.0 percent from the floor, including 8-of-16 (50.0 percent) from 3-point, and scored 69.5 points per game.

His teammate Chris Jones is on fire of late as well. The sophomore racked up 23 and 21 point games while shooting a combined 56.0 percent.

On Saturday they will look to take on a Jackson State squad that has fallen at the Super Pit in each of the last four seasons. North Texas leads the all-time series with Jackson State 5-1, but a shootout is nearly guaranteed when these two take the court. The series dates back to 1990, when the Mean Green knocked off the Tigers 118-115, which is still tied for the fourth-most points ever scored by an NT squad.
