Mean Green Falls To 14th-Ranked Longhorns 86-57

AUSTIN, Tex. (12/7/04) The 14th-ranked Texas Longhorns used a 17-2 second half run to power their way past the North Texas men’s basketball team 86-57 at the Frank Erwin Center.

The loss is the third of the season by the Mean Green and the second loss of the season to a team ranked in the top 25.

“I’m very disappointed with the way that we played tonight,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “We got a little bit out of character tonight on offense and we didn’t get into a flow. They are a great shooting team, and tonight they showed why”.

The Longhorns opened the game with a 17-2 run in the first eight minutes before the Mean Green responded with a 14-7 run to cut the Texas lead to 24-16 with 5:15 remaining in the first half.

North Texas trailed 31-22 with less than four minutes in the first half when Texas closed the half with a 15-2 run to take a 46-24 lead into the break.

Texas extended its lead to 59-34 with 13:36 remaining when North Texas roared back with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to trim the Longhorns lead to 61-47.

Texas was able to ice the game with a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to build their lead to 78-49 with four minutes remaining.
