DENTON, Texas - It took double-overtime to decide the Metroplex's best basketball rivalry last year between North Texas and UT Arlington, and the 2010 version is shaping up to be a dandy as well.  Tip off from the Super Pit is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Josh White dropped in a career-best 35 points in downing the Mavericks last season at Texas Hall, adding to the lore that is the NT-UTA series. The Mavericks (5-1) had won each meeting dating to 1995 before White & Co. prevailed in double OT, but three of the last four meetings have been decided by five points or less.

NT owns a 29-21 edge in the all-time series which dates back to the first meeting way back in 1925, which North Texas won 32-12 over the Mavericks. The two shared a Southland Conference rivalry from 1983-96 where North Texas enjoyed a slim 15-14 edge in the series.

North Texas is a former member of the Southland Conference (1983-96), and boasts a 226-169 all-time record against current members of the league. NT is 11-3 against the Southland since 2006-06, including Saturday's massive comeback win over Texas State.

NT trailed by as many as 14 in the second half to Texas State. Down 67-56 with just under four minutes remaining, White and Tristan Thompson knocked down two 3-pointers apiece in 1:16 to tie the game. NT shot 83 percent (5-of-6) and hit 12-of-12 free throws in the game's final five minutes. No stranger to huge comebacks, NT has posted two school-record 21 point comebacks in the Johnny Jones era - Denver (1/15/09) and New Mexico St. (12/1/07).
