Josh White, Mean Green Set For Another Stillwater Showdown

DENTON, Texas (11/21/09) - Josh White and the North Texas basketball team outgunned UT Arlington in a 101-99 double-overtime thriller on Wednesday night, and now must turn their attention to Gallagher-Iba Arena and the Cowboys of Oklahoma State. White poured in a career-high 35 points and ranks fifth in the nation in scoring average on the young season.

The game is being televised by the Cowboy Sports Network, and will be shown nationally on Fox Sports Plus (DirecTV 677, Dish Network 451). You can hear the game in the DFW area on 88.1-FM KNTU starting at 1 p.m.

  • The Mean Green is just a season removed from the 82-73 upset of the Cowboys at the Super Pit. Josh White, whose brother Quannas White played at Oklahoma, is averaging 25.3 points per game in his career against Big XII opponents.
  • North Texas improved to 10-0 under Johnny Jones when scoring 100 points or more. The Mean Green's last two overtime contests have been lengthy affairs, with NT last pulling out a triple overtime win over Arkansas State, 86-83, back on Jan. 10.
  • Josh White was electric in pouring in a career-high 35 points in the double overtime win over UT Arlington, making him just the 23rd player in school history to net 35 points or more in a single game. White now ranks fifth in the nation in scoring average with 27.0 per game through two outings. The last NT player to top White's outing was Chris Davis, who scored a career-best 37 against Louisiana-Lafayette on Feb. 22, 2001.
  • George Odufuwa followed up his record 24-rebound performance in the season opener with 11 boards and a career-high 16 points at UT Arlington - his second straight double-double. The junior is tied for the national lead with 17.5 rebounds per game after two outings. Odufuwa became just the ninth player in the NCAA since 2005-06 to register 24 or more rebounds in a single game.
  • NT led the nation in free throw attempts in 2008-09 by shooting 27.7 per game, and is showing no signs up slowing down this year. NT was 44-of-57 from the line at UT Arlington, which ties the school record for makes in a game, and ranks second for attempts. The Mean Green's averages of 34 free throw makes and 45 attempts easily lead the nation.
