Game Notes

ARLINGTON, Texas – North Texas and UT Arlington have made this Metroplex rivalry one to watch. From Josh White’s career performance in double-overtime, to the Mavericks’ buzzer beater at the Super Pit in 2006 – you’re almost guaranteed an edge-of-your-seat game.

Tristan Thompson and the Mean Green struck last when he poured in a then-career high 29 points to lift NT past the Mavericks 87-83 at the Super Pit last year. NT combined to hit 12 three pointers, none bigger than Shannon Shorter’s dagger with 2:49 on the clock that gave NT a four-point lead. NT was able to close the game on free throws from there.

North Texas leads the all-time series with the Movin’ Mavs, 30-21, including each of the last two meetings. Prior to this stretch, UT Arlington took the previous five meetings dating back to 1995. NT first met UTA back in 1925, taking a 32-12 win over the Mavericks. The two shared a Southland Conference rivalry from 1983-96 where NT enjoyed a slim 15-14 edge in the series.

Tuesday’s game will be North Texas’ last trip to “The Stage” at Texas Hall, as UT Arlington will soon take the court at the all-new College Park Center (seating capacity 7,000). Last time at Texas Hall, Josh White scored 36 points in a double-over time thriller that saw NT sqeak out a 101-99 win.

UTA is coming off a 68-61 win over their future WAC conference mate Louisiana Tech on Saturday. UTA used a 21-12 edge on the offensive glass to put up a 19-8 second chance points advantage. Kevin Butler led UTA with 17 points.

NT forward Roger Franklin will square off against his former Duncanville High School teammate Kevin Butler, who also played two years at TCU.
