Game Notes

  • The win improves the Mean Green to 3-0, marking the 17th time in the school’s 90-year basketball history that UNT has opened a season undefeated after three games. The last time NT opened 3-0 was in 1994-95.
  • With the win, NT now stands 4-1 vs. Indiana State.
  • Quincy Williams recorded the season’s first double-double with 14 points and 19 rebounds. It is the ninth career double-double for Williams.
  • Williams’s 19 rebounds are a career high, bettering his previous career-best of 13, which he had accomplished three times in his Mean Green career.
  • Williams’s 19 rebounds are the highest by a player in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
  • Williams’s 19 rebounds are the most by a Mean Green player since 3-7-04 when Shawnson Johnson grabbed 21 vs. New Orleans.
  • Last season Williams never went more than two games scoring in single digits before breaking out into a double-figure performance. That trend continues this season: after being limited to 6 and 2 points in the season’s first two games, Quincy exploded for 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Indiana State.
  • Transfer guard Collin Dennis registered a new career high with his game-high 22 points against Indiana State. Dennis connected on 4-6 field goals, including shooting 3-4 from three-point range and hitting 11-of-13 at the free throw line.
  • Dennis has now scored in double figures in two of his first three games in a Mean Green uniform; both of those double-figures games have seen him post 20 or more points. He had 21 in the opener vs. Cameron to go along with his 22 against Indiana State.
  • Senior guard Ben Bell has a season-high four assists against the Sycamores.
  • Early season trends for the Mean Green: NT has out-rebounded all three opponents and have led at the half in each of the three games.
  • The Mean Green connected on five three-pointers, continuing a streak of 539 straight games in which they’ve scored at least one three-point FG.
  • NT’s defense has kept all three opponents this season from shooting under 40 percent from the floor.
  • NT had a season-high 23 made field goals in the game, shooting 23-of-29 from the line.
  • Johnny Jones improves to .500 for his career at North Texas with the win over Indiana State. The seventh year coach now has a record of 89-89 with the Mean Green.
