Snake Pit Fever Resumes Tonight Versus Cameron

Listen Live

DENTON, Texas (11/14/08) Former North Texas basketball coach Dan Spika compared the Snake Pit to the eye of a hurricane. Friday night at 7 p.m., a new generation of Mean Green fans will get to find out exactly what he was talking about.

The former home of Mean Green basketball from 1950-73, the facility now known as the Ken Bahnsen Gym will once again be rocking on its hinges Friday night.

Known as much for its endless acoustics as its raucous crowds, the Snake Pit is an absolute nightmare on opponents. The wooden bleachers and concrete construction bounce sounds like a basketball, and put the fan inside the game like few venues.

A capacity crowd is expected, and seating is general admission only. Gates open at 6 p.m. and fans are encouraged to arrive early. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and can be purchased at the North Texas ticket office or at the Snake Pit doors. Tip off against Cameron is slated for 7 p.m.

This will be the third straight season North Texas and the Aggies have met in the season opener, with the Mean Green owning a 191-100 scoring edge in the last two meetings.

The Aggies are coming off a 94-39 exhibition loss at Oklahoma earlier in the week. The Mean Green topped Texas A&M-International in exhibition play on Wednesday in the Super Pit.
