Volleyball Set For Final Homestand Weekend

DENTON, Texas (11/02/07) - The Mean Green volleyball center will be a sight for sore eyes for North Texas tonight, which played seven of its last eight matches on the road for a total of 3,688 miles traveled over an 18 day span. NT hosts the Sun Belt’s trio of Louisiana schools starting with Louisiana-Lafayette tonight at 7 p.m.

North Texas can virtually clinch a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament with a pair of wins this weekend. After the Ragin’ Cajuns, the Mean Green will host Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday and New Orleans on Senior Day Sunday.

What To Watch For

Brooke Engel dropped a school-record 12 aces on UALR, which earned her Sun Belt Player of the Week honors. The senior is only the sixth woman in NCAA history and the first in SBC history to record at least a dozen aces in a five-game match. Engel already owns the program’s season and career records. With .92 aces per game this year, Engel trails only Martina Wagner of Long Island for the NCAA lead.

North Texas earned its first season sweep with a 3-1 win over Arkansas State. NT took the first meeting of the season with the Indians 3-2, and will have two more opportunities for sweeps this weekend against Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana at Monroe.

Setter Heather Maddox has reached the 60-assist plateau three times in the last seven matches. With 1,718 to her credit, Maddox trails her former teammate Ashley Bass by only 201 assists for fourth place in school history.
